RIP TABITHA IXCHOP (December 24, 1987 – December 13, 2023)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 5:19 a.m.
The decedent was fatally hit by a vehicle near Cal State Long Beach. Her surname is distinctly Guatemalan.
Long Beach Police Department officers arrived at the intersection of Seventh Street and Pepper Tree Lane at around 5:05 a.m. in response to a report regarding a collision involving a pedestrian.
The victim was discovered lying in the eastbound lanes of Seventh Street, west of Pepper Tree Lane.
Ixchop apparently had run northbound across the eastbound lanes of Seventh Street outside a marked crosswalk before being hit by a vehicle. She then fell into one of the traffic lanes, where she was struck by another vehicle. Both drivers remained at the scene — they pulled over and called 911.
Police said neither speed nor distracted or impaired driving appeared to be a factor in the incident.
