(L.A.) Steven Chavez, 28, Died in Jail

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 28-year-old Latino male that occurred in jail.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Steven Chavez of Torrance.

Height: 5 feet 8 inches / Weight: 320 pounds

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Condition: Severe Obesity

RIP STEVEN CHAVEZ (January 31, 1998 – February 2, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday.

The decedent was found expired in his cell at North County Correctional Facility in Castaic.

This is LASD’s eighth in-custody death for the new year.
