(L.A.) Sharon Gentry, 75, Died in a Boat Explosion

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 75-year-old White/Caucasian female that occurred on a boat in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Sharon Gentry.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Thermal Burns and Smoke Inhalation

Two women were killed and another woman and two men were hospitalized with burns after a pleasure boat caught fire and exploded at a marina in Long Beach, California.

The blaze was reported around 5:15 p.m. Saturday on a 35-foot powerboat at a fuel dock in Alamitos Bay, the Long Beach Fire Department said.

A witness saw the explosion and the subsequent flames. He saw that one man was quickly able to get off the burning boat and onto the dock, and the other man and a woman jump into the water.

UPDATE: The other fatality has been identified as 60-year-old Margaret Gentry.
