Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 53-year-old Asian male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Ronaldo Estoque.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Cause of Death B: Covid-19 Infection

Other Significant Conditions: Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease, Glycosuria

This is the earliest case in the medical examiner’s records where COVID-19 is mentioned. Note that most so-called COVID deaths occur after a stay at a hospital and so do not have to go through the coroner’s office. Only “suspicious” or “mysterious” deaths are investigated by the government agency.

The decedent appears to have been of Filipino descent.
