(L.A.) Riley Jang, 17, Ended His Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 17-year-old Asian male that occurred at a residence.
The coroner’s office has identified the teenager as Riley Jang.
Manner of Death: Suicide
Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head

Koreans, by far, have the highest rates of suicide in L.A. County. We also had a 15-year-old Korean American girl take her own life in the same manner in March, a month after which her father jumped to his death off the freeway.

After Koreans, it’s the Russians/Ukrainians/Belarusians who have the highest rates of suicide as an ethnic group. Broken down by gender and race, white males from various backgrounds have the highest rates of suicide here and throughout the country.
He was a friend of mine, we were both supposed to be graduating in 2024. Last thing we talked about before Thanksgiving Break let out was during our college apps, he was trying to convince me not to go to Vancouver for college, saying it was pretty much just LA but colder. I wish I could’ve said a proper goodbye to him rather than just saying “See you in a week” like I did.
Riley, wherever you are, I hope you’re happier than you were here. Everyone at Ren’s gonna miss you.
