(L.A.) Paulino Guzman Canales, 67, Died in Compton

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 67-year-old Hispanic male that occurred in the yard of a private residence.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Paulino Guzman Canales, resident of North Gage Avenue in the 90063.

Cause of Death: Blast Injuries

OSHA SUMMARY:

An employee and two coworkers were remodeling an attached, single-family, single-floor house. The remodel included changing out the windows, the gas-heated water heater, the floors, the drywall, the bathroom, and the kitchen.

The coworkers were working inside and the employee was working in the crawl space when an explosion occurred.

Upon hearing and feeling the explosion, the coworkers ran out of the house and found the employee lying on the ground on the south side of the house approximately eight feet east of the crawl space.

The force of the explosion had struck the employee in the chest and head region, killing him instantly.
