Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 41-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Paul Wright.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death A: Drowning

Cause of Death B: Effect of Ethanol and Medications (Buspirone, Mirtazapine, Clonazepam, and Lorazepam)

RIP PAUL WRIGHT (March 15, 1983 – May 7, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 12:55 p.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on June 25, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drugs.

Clonazepam and lorazepam are benzodiazepines that are commonly used to treat anxiety.

In contrast, buspirone is a non-benzodiazepine medication that can be used for long-term treatment of anxiety. It is less likely to cause sedation than benzodiazepines.

Mirtazapine is an antidepressant that may also have some benefits for anxiety, but it can cause prominent sedation.

Buspirone and mirtazapine should not be used together, as this combination can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called serotonin syndrome.
