RIP ORDEAN F NEVA (July 8, 1960 – February 14, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

The decedent was found dead inside a residence after an hourslong barricade with an Armenian suspect named Vahan Keshishyan.

Glendale police had responded to the 3300 block of Reta Street for an assault.

Responding officers discovered evidence of an assault but were unable to locate the suspect and victim. As a precautionary measure, three schools were placed on lockdown.

Officers eventually pinpointed the suspect’s location to his mother’s house at 3323 Reta Street.

The Glendale Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team were deployed to the scene to initiate negotiations with the suspect. After several hours, Keshishyan surrendered to SWAT operators.

Officers discovered a man dead at the scene, later identified as Ordean Neva.

Keshishyan is 28 years old and had a relatively thin rap sheet consisting mostly of being drunk in public and trespassing. Neva was 63 and appears to have had only one serious arrest in Southern California — for assault with a deadly weapon — way back in 2008.

A neighbor told Glendale News-Press that there had been previous incidents in which neighbors were concerned about Keshishyan’s behavior, adding that Keshishyan may have had a history of mental health issues. The victim was said to be a pool man at the suspect’s residence. There were reports of Keshishyan being seen Wednesday outside of his home carrying a machete.

Keshishyan has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail.
