Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 67-year-old Hispanic female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Olivia Cornejo De Ceja.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Septic Shock

Cause of Death B: Infected Enterocutaneous Fistula and Duodenal Perforation

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 3:42 p.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on April 20.

An enterocutaneous fistula is an abnormal connection between the bowel and the skin, while a duodenal perforation is a hole in the wall of the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine).

The enterocutaneous fistula can develop after surgery, trauma, or infection, allowing intestinal contents to leak into the abdominal cavity and through the skin. A duodenal perforation can be caused by ulcers, trauma, or other gastrointestinal disorders, leading to the leakage of stomach contents into the abdominal cavity.

Both conditions can lead to peritonitis (infection of the abdominal lining) and sepsis if not treated promptly.
