(L.A.) Movsha Hoffman, 78, Died on a Street

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 78-year-old Caucasian male that occurred on a street.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Movsha Hoffman.

Cause of Death: Multiple Traumatic Injuries

RIP MOVSHA “MICHAEL” HOFFMAN (October 8, 1924 – July 16, 2003)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

The decedent was one of the victims in the July 16, 2003, Santa Monica Farmer’s Market crash where an 86-year-old motorist identified as George Russell Weller plowed his car into a crowded open-air marketplace, killing nine people.

He was a member of the Russian Jewish community. He had migrated from Lithuania while it was under Soviet rule.

The fatal incident fueled a national debate on safety risks posed by elderly drivers.
