(L.A.) Montae Cook, 27, Died on a Street

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 27-year-old Black male that occurred on a street.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Montae Cook of Signal Hill.

Cause of Death: Blunt Force Injuries

RIP MONTAE COOK (March 8, 1996 – September 5, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 12:35 a.m.

The decedent was killed when the vehicle he was driving slammed into a Los Angeles County fire truck.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened some time after midnight at South Avalon and East Compton boulevards near the border of West Rancho Dominguez and Compton.

A blue 2004 Chrysler was speeding westbound on Avalon Boulevard when it hit the northbound fire truck, which was responding to an emergency call.

Two victims inside the Chrysler were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were residents of Signal Hill. Aside from Montae Cook, 25-year-old Asia Allen-Bookman lost her life. Allen-Bookman’s family claims the victims were being chased by Cook’s ex-girlfriend who was in another vehicle that looked to be racing alongside the Chrysler.
