(L.A.) Mark Couturier, 50, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 50-year-old Caucasian male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Mark Couturier. Height: 6 feet, 2 inches. Weight: 205 pounds

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Acute Methamphetamine Intoxication Combined with Agitated Behavior and Multimodal Restraint

Other Significant Conditions: Dehydration; Cardiomegaly

RIP MARK THOMAS COUTURIER (June 1, 1962 – April 4, 2013)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:46 p.m.

Police were sent to Delancy Street Foundation at 400 N. Vermont Avenue where they ended up using a TASER on Couturier. He was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian where he was pronounced dead.

LAPD processed this as an in-custody death. The officers involved were Anthony Suviate, Perla Rodriguez, and Luis Contreras, all of the Cetnral Area / Division.

Couturier’s wife would file a lawsuit alleging battery and excessive force. The medical examiner documented abrasions to Couturier’s forehead, left face, both wrists, right elbow, right hand and both knees. Couturier also had contusions of both hands and wrists. He had seven TASER marks — on his right rib cage, left lower abdomen, left thigh, and middle back.
