(L.A.) Luis Tolosa, 44, Died at a Residence

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 44-year-old Latino male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Luis Tolosa.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Other Significant Condition: Effects of Methamphetamine

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on July 20, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab.

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Meth stimulates the release of stress hormones like adrenaline, increases energy use, and may impair glucose uptake by cells. This can lead to poor blood glucose control, increased insulin resistance, and a higher risk of missing insulin doses — all of which can precipitate DKA in diabetic individuals.
