A femoral neck fracture (NOF) is a type of hip fracture of the thigh bone (femur) — just below the ball of the ball-and-socket hip joint.1 It is more likely to occur in older patients due to unsteadiness of gait and reduced bone mineral density.

Symptoms include groin pain that worsens when putting weight on the injured leg and can tear blood vessels and cut off blood supply to the femoral head, potentially leading to fracture.
