(L.A.) Lance Erskine, 20, Died on the 5 Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 20-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred on the 5 freeway.

The coroner’s office has identified the young man as Lance Erskine of Fountain Valley.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt Trauma

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 1:58 a.m.

The decedent was a passenger of a vehicle that crashed into the back of a stopped tractor-trailer along Interstate 5 near the Carmenita Road exit in the Santa Fe Springs area.

According to California Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Landon Hazelwood of Garden Grove was driving a Honda, which moved to the right and collided with the back of the tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder.

Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, one of whom was identified by the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner as Lance Paul Erskine.

Hazelwood was transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
