(L.A.) Kai Bernabe, 3, Drowned in a Backyard Pool

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a three-year-old Asian male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the child as Kai Bernabe.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Drowning

The decedent’s surname appears to be Filipino.

Paramedics were called to 10437 Des Moines Avenue, just east of Tampa Avenue north of Devonshire Street, in Porter Ranch, at around 10:35 a.m. on Friday.

The decedent was one of twin boys that had to be pulled out of a backyard swimming pool by their parents. His brother Liam is still in critical condition at the hospital.

The parents are Jasmine Coleman (noseringed) and Mark Anthony Bernabe. The incident happened at a house listed as having a market value of $1.2 million.

In March 2025, Coleman and Bernabe sued Amazon for selling them a “defectively designed” sliding-door lock that was “unsafe for the uses and purposes for which it was intended.”
