(L.A.) Juan Sanchez Salas, 18, Died on a Street

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 18-year-old Latino male that occurred on a street in the Westmont neighborhood of South L.A.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Juan Sanchez Salas.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday afternoon.

The decedent was injured in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of West 96th Street and South Vermont Avenue.

First responders arrived on scene at around 2:03 p.m.

The driver who is suspected of causing the crash is in his 70s and may have been suffering a medical emergency.

The decedent had apparently arrived in the United States less than a year ago from Mexico. He came to join his father to work and learn English.
