(L.A.) Joseph Aguilar, 18, Died on the 5 Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 18-year-old Latino male that occurred on the Golden State Freeway in Burbank.

The coroner’s office identified the young man as Joseph Aguilar.

Manner and cause of death have not yet been officially announced by the medical examiner; the information will be added to this page as soon as it becomes available.

Formal pronouncement of death was made early Sunday morning.

The decedent was hit by a vehicle shortly before 12:44 a.m. on the southbound I-5 at West Alameda Avenue.

A white Mercedes sedan was apparently involved and stopped on the right shoulder, while the pedestrian was located between lanes 1 and 2.

The response required major southbound closures and a Sig Alert. California Highway Patrol closed the incident at 4:39 a.m.
