(L.A.) Jonathan Peña Langarica, 20, Died in a Vehicle Crash

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 20-year-old Latino male.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Jonathan Pena Langarica.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Blunt Force Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 2:42 a.m.

Other media outlets have spelled the decedent’s surname as Langarcia.

He was one of two people fatally injured when their vehicle careened off the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway and crashed into a tree near the unincorporated Athens area. The other was Daniel Majano, 21.

California Highway Patrol officers had responded at 2:26 a.m. to the eastbound freeway and Normandie Avenue where they found the victims.

Witnesses said a white sedan had been racing with the victims before the crash and drove away down the 105 Freeway without stopping.

Video description: A driver was killed in a solo-vehicle crash involving fire on the 105 Freeway early Friday morning.

California Highway Patrol’s West Los Angeles patrol units responded to a collision just before 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound 105 Freeway, just west of Normandie Avenue in the Athens area of South Los Angeles.

When units arrived on scene, they located a vehicle split in half, fully engulfed in flames with an ejected party.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding LAFD personnel.

Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving recklessly before the crash.
