Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 53-year-old Latino male.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Joaquin Rojas.

Cause of Death: Sequelae of Crohn’s Disease and Rectal Mass Not Otherwise Specified

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 8:57 p.m.

A rectal mass refers to an abnormal growth or lump in the rectum.

Patients with Crohn’s Disease have a slightly increased risk of death compared to the general population. CD-specific causes of death include small intestine and colorectal cancers, gastrointestinal diseases such as intestinal failure, perioperative complications, and amyloidosis.

Those suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases, which can lead to intestinal failure, face an increased risk of death primarily due to cardiovascular disease, infections, and gastrointestinal cancers.
