RIP JAIME BARBOSA ( July 24, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday.

According to information on the fundraiser, the decedent was diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism, and spent part of his childhood in mental health behavioral facilities. He lost his mother at age 7 and grew up with a father who struggled with substance abuse. He was living with his grandmother in adulthood.

On July 22, he expressed suicidal intent to a California state social worker, who told his grandmother to call the police. The cops who responded decided he was merely asleep, despite indications that he had in fact taken medication.

He was finally taken to the ER on July 23 after his sister intervened, but he died the following morning from cardiac complications caused by the delay in treating the overdose.

Oxcarbazepine is an anticonvulsant medication used primarily to treat epilepsy. It is sometimes prescribed off-label for bipolar disorder, neuropathic pain, or mood stabilization.
