(L.A.) Heidy De Haro, 15, Died from Driving off Freeway

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 15-year-old female of Latin American ethnicity that occurred in a parking lot.

The coroner’s office has identified the teenage girl as Heidy De Haro.

Cause of Death: Blunt Force Traumatic Injuries

RIP HEIDY DE HARO (February 14, 2007 – January 14, 2023)

Killed in single-vehicle crash on the Santa Monica Freeway.

California Highway Patrol was called to the scene after a motorist dialed 911 and reported a white Honda Accord in a ditch off of the northbound side of the freeway between the off-ramps of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.

The crash was reported at 1:41 am and CHP officers were called to the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway and the transition road to the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway. The driver had slammed into a guardrail before driving off the freeway into an embankment. The vehicle landed in a business parking lot. No one is sure how long she was there.

De Haro was pronounced dead at the scene.

In California, teenagers who are 15-and-a-half years old can take a driver’s education course.

The Department of Motor Vehicles can issue a permit to a teen who is at least 15.5 years old once the teen has taken a drivers’ education class with a minimum of 30 classroom instructional hours.
