(L.A.) Flavio Balderas, 60, Innocent Victm in Police Chase

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 60-year-old Latin American male that occurred at an intersection.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Flavio Balderas.

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Trauma

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 2:22 a.m.

The decedent and his wife Micaela were killed in an early Sunday morning crash involving a driver who was fleeing from police after a possible catalytic converter theft.

Flavio died on the scene of the accident, while Micaela was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The couple had attended a quinceañera celebration and were heading home when the crash happened.

The incident started in South Gate and ended in a two-vehicle crash around 2 a.m. at State Street and Tweedy Boulevard in Lynwood.

A third victim was identified as James Griffin, 20, supposedly a passenger in the car that the police were chasing.
