(L.A.) Dennis Shimizu, 49, Died on New Year’s Day

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 49-year-old Asian male.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Dennis Shimizu.

Manner of Death: Suicide

Cause of Death: Oxycodone and Citalopram Toxicity

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 10:18 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on April 17, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drugs.

Citalopram, sold under the brand name Celexa among others, is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. Suicidal ideation is likely to occur early in citalopram treatment.

The decedent’s surname is Japanese. He identified as hapa.
