RIP DAVEIGH ELIZABETH SCHWALLIER (July 24, 1990 – June 16, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday.

The decedent was the actress known as Daveigh Chase. She was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Cathy Chase and John Schwallier, and raised in Oregon.

She originated the voice of Lilo Pelekai in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch (2002), a role she carried through the film, television series, and sequels, while simultaneously delivering one of cinema’s most chilling performances as Samara Morgan in The Ring (2002)—a turn so unsettling it earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. That same year, she voiced the lead heroine Chihiro in the English dub of Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning Spirited Away (2001), and appeared as Samantha Darko in the cult classic Donnie Darko (2001). She later showcased her dramatic range on television as Rhonda Volmer, a young girl from a fundamentalist polygamous compound, in HBO’s acclaimed drama series Big Love (2006–2011).

Human immunodeficiency virus is HIV, the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, commonly known as AIDS.

Speculation is she was infected not necessarily from sexual contact, but from needles used during her drug addiction.
