RIP CAULIN TANNER ( March 19, 2026)

The decedent was from Texas and had moved to California about two years ago.

Obesity is a major risk factor for developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Extra body fat can slow blood flow, partly because of higher pressure in the abdomen and less movement, which makes clots more likely to form. It also creates a constant low-level inflammatory state in the body and increases substances like plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and fibrinogen that make the blood more likely to clot.

Physical activity, like structured exercise, can help improve blood flow and lower risk somewhat, but it usually does not completely offset the effects of excess body fat. The body can still be in a more inflamed, clot-prone state, and pressure in the abdomen can still slow blood return from the legs.
