Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 38-year-old Latino male.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Carlos Vargas.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Acute Exacerbation of Hereditary Angioedema

Other Significant Condition: SARS-COV2 (COVID-19) Pneumonia

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 7:41 a.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on November 22.

Angioedema is swelling that is similar to hives, but the swelling is under the skin instead of on the surface.

Hereditary angioedema is a disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe swelling. It is a rare but serious problem with the immune system. The problem is passed down through families.

HAE is an autosomal dominant disease caused by the lack of or a dysfunctional C1-inhibitor protein.
