(L.A.) Bryce Jacquet, 22, Died From Protonitazene
Case Number: 2024-06537
Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 22-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred in a vehicle.
The coroner’s office has identified the young man as Bryce Jacquet.
Manner of Death: Accident
Cause of Death: Effects of Protonitazene and Alprazolam
RIP BRYCE ALEXANDER JACQUET (November 10, 2001 – April 19, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 1:29 p.m.
Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on June 25, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drugs.
This is considered an accidental drug overdose.
Protonitazene is a new synthetic opioid that has recently emerged and is causing public health concerns. In-vitro data suggests protonitazene is roughly three times more potent than fentanyl.
Out of over 160,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, this appears to be the very first to explicitly mention protonitazene as a cause of death.
