(L.A.) Benjamin Caranchini, 18, Died at a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 18-year-old male that occurred at a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Benjamin Caranchini and listed his race/ethnicity as Latin American.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Chest

RIP BENJAMIN CARANCHINI (January 31, 2004 – December 5, 2022)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 10:45 a.m.

The decedent was fatally shot in Azusa.

Azusa Police Department officers responded about 10 a.m. Monday to a report of a crash in the 200 block of East Newburgh Street, near Azusa Avenue and Arrow Highway.

The victim was identified as Benjamin Caranchini.

When officers arrived, they found Caranchini suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

After he was shot, Caranchini crashed his dark-colored Hyundai into a parked pickup in a residential neighborhood.

Caranchini was live-streaming video on social media when the shooting occurred. A gunshot can be heard on the video before the driver — who was wearing a red beanie and a black face mask — lost control of the car.
