(L.A.) Arthur Ponto, 54, Died in Men’s Central Jail

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 54-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred while in custody at Men’s Central Jail downtown.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Arthur Ponto.

Black hair. Green eyes. Height: 5 feet 7 inches. Weight: 175 pounds

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death: Hypertensive and Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Condition: Valvular Heart Disease

RIP ARTHUR CHRISTOPHE PONTO (July 13, 1969 – August 3, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:44 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on September 22, presumably after the results of tox screening came back negative for substances.

The decedent appeared to be very fit and healthy.

Arrested on June 20, 2023, he was serving his sentence when he died in the dayroom of MCJ at 441 Bauchet Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

He had an extensive history of arrests, mostly for possession of controlled substances, grand theft and robbery.
