(L.A.) Arminda Hernandez, 66, Ended Her Life

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 66-year-old Latin American female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the woman as Arminda Hernandez.

Cause of Death: Effects of Amlodipine, Carbidopa, Levodopa, and Valproate

Amlodipine, sold under the brand name Norvasc among others, is a calcium channel blocker medication used to treat high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. It is taken by mouth.

Carbidopa (Lodosyn) is a drug given to people with Parkinson’s disease in order to inhibit peripheral metabolism of levodopa.

Levodopa (L-Dopa) is an anti-parkinsonism drug that works by being converted to dopamine in the brain. It is most commonly used to control bradykinetic tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement associated with Parkinson disease.

Valproate (VPA) and its valproic acid, sodium valproate, and valproate semisodium forms are medications primarily used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder and prevent migraine headaches.
