(L.A.) Irma Romero Castaneda, 21, Died on a Hiking Trail

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 21-year-old Hispanic female that occurred on a hiking trail.

The coroner’s office identified the young woman as Irma Romero Castaneda of Lancaster.

STATUS: The decedent’s body has been released. Ruling by the deputy medical examiner is deferred pending additional investigation.

Manner and cause of death will be added to this page when it becomes available.

Because the DME has ordered drug screening, the next public update may take three to five months.

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday morning.

The decedent’s body was discovered by a hiker at around 9:30 a.m. near the Haskell Canyon Open Space in Saugus.

LASD responded to the intersection of Benz Road and Copper Hill Drive.

There were no signs of foul play.
