(L.A.) Carl Grillmair, 67, Died in Llano

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 67-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred at his Antelope Valley residence.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Carl Grillmair.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Torso

RIP CARL J. GRILLMAIR (February 12, 1959 – February 16, 2026)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday morning.

LASD said the shooting happened at around 6:10 a.m. in the 30700 block of 165th Street East.

Deputies found the decedent on his front porch.

Carl Johann Grillmair was a Caltech space scientist, originally from Australia. With an h-index of 75, he has a body of work that is considered highly influential in the field of astrophysics. In 2007, he discovered three giant stellar streams arcing over the Milky Way. He served as director of the Llano Community Association from 2005 to 2010.

Llano is an unincorporated community near the San Bernardino County line.

UPDATE: Freddy Snyder, 29, has been charged with murder for this fatal shooting.
