(L.A.) Jose Luna, 34, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 34-year-old Latino male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Jose Luna.

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday.
At around 8:10 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a report of a person down near the intersection of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway.

Upon arrival, they located an adult male on the southwest sidewalk of the intersection with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. LBFD personnel transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a semi-truck with a loaded trailer was making a southbound turn onto Oregon Avenue from eastbound Pacific Coast Highway. During the turn, the rear tires of the trailer mounted the sidewalk, striking the victim, who appeared to have been sleeping there at the time. The truck driver continued south on Oregon Avenue without stopping, failing to remain at the scene.

At this time, there is no indication that speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving played a role in the incident.
