(L.A.) Africa Johnson, 52, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 52-year-old Black female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the woman as Africa Johnson. Born in L.A. County.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of the Chest

RIP AFRICA M JOHNSON (October 3, 1972 – August 4, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday.

The decedent was one of two people killed in a shooting that happened outside a warehouse party in downtown L.A. The other was Gregory Derisso.

LAPD said the incident took place at around 1:00 a.m. in the area of East 14th Place and Paloma Street in DTLA.
