On July 3, 2025 at approximately 9:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Downey Avenue and South Street regarding a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found a male adult motorcyclist in the southbound lanes of Downey Avenue, north of South Street. Officers also found a female adult lying on the west sidewalk of Downey Avenue, near the motorcyclist. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and determined the motorcyclist to be deceased on scene. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the female to a local hospital to be further treated for her injuries.

At this time, speed and distracted driving are being investigated as potential factors in this collision.
