Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 61-year-old White/Caucasian male that occurred at his residence.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Charles Profus.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Effects of Fentanyl and Diazepam

RIP CHARLES PROFUS (November 2, 1963 – June 6, 2025)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on August 5, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Diazepam, commonly known by its brand name Valium, is a benzodiazepine used primarily to treat conditions such as anxiety, muscle spasms, seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and sometimes insomnia. It works by enhancing the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain, leading to a calming effect.

The decedent was Chuck Profus, a founding member and the drummer of the speed metal band Agent Steel. He may have actually died on June 4, Wednesday.
