(L.A.) Charles Lam, 85, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of an 85-year-old Asian male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Charles Lam.

Manner of Death: Natural

Cause of Death A: Sepsis; Septic Shock

Cause of Death B: Urinary Tract Infection

Other Significant Conditions: Chordoma of the Sacrum; Medical History of Hypertension

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 4:25 a.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on June 19.

A chordoma of the sacrum is a rare type of bone cancer that starts at the base of the spine (the sacrum) and grows slowly.

Sacral chordomas can affect bladder function, often causing bladder retention or other urinary problems, which can increase the risk of developing UTIs. Studies and clinical reports indicate that urinary tract infections are found in up to a third of patients with sacral chordoma.
