Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 32-year-old Black male.
The coroner’s office has identified the man as Javonnta Murphy. Born in L.A. County. Mother’s maiden name is Brown.
Manner of Death: Homicide
Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head
The decedent’s unclothed body was inside a sealed 55-gallon drum that was found floating in the water at Malibu Lagoon by the Pacific Ocean.

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 10:43 a.m.
The deputy medical examiner published the manner and cause of death on August 4, 2023. Later, it was discovered that Joshua Simmons likely committed the murder. Simmons would die by suicide in November 2024 while in custody of the sheriff’s department.
Approximate discovery location: 23200 block of Pacific Coast Highway
The decedent was the local rapper Sirtanky / Sir Tanky.
