Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 37-year-old Hispanic female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Vanessa Melendez.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death A: Multiorgan Failure

Cause of Death B: Clonazepam Toxicity

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Clonazepam, commonly known by its brand name Klonopin, is a medication belonging to the benzodiazepine class. It is primarily used to treat anxiety disorders, panic attacks, and certain types of seizures.
