RIP ULYSSESS DWAYNE PETRO (September 17, 1963 – February 1, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 8:40 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on September 11/12, presumably after the results of tox screening came back positive for the drugs. This is considered an accidental overdose.

The decedent made the news in July 1992 att he age of 28 when as a County Jail inmate he asked to be married in court. The same judge who sentenced him to jail agreed to marry him to his fiancee. At the time he was being held on a parole violation.

The charge against Petro stemmed from an incident in which Housing Authority police stopped a vehicle at the Mar Vista Gardens public housing complex because of a license tag violation. Petro, who pedaled up on his bicycle, was accused of harassing the officers, swearing at them and shoving one of them when he was asked for identification.

While that case was pending, Petro was arrested again on a warrant issued for failing to meet the conditions of his parole, including reporting to his parole officer. Petro had been on parole since 1990 when he was released from state prison after serving part of a 5-year sentence for a 1987 armed robbery conviction.
