RIP SYDNEYANNE WOODS (September 10, 1966 – May 10, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Friday at 11:07 a.m.
The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on July 10, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drugs.
Fluoxetine (Prozac) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medication primarily used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nervosa, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. It works by increasing the availability of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in regulating mood, in the brain.
When fluoxetine and methamphetamine are taken together, the combination can lead to a potentially life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome. Symptoms include agitation, confusion, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle rigidity.
Fluoxetine may also increase the effects and side effects of methamphetamine, such as jitteriness, nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, and racing thoughts. This combination can be especially risky for the heart.
