(L.A.) Sarah Lewis, 42, Died From a Kratom OD

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 42-year-old White/Caucasian female that occurred at her residence.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Sarah Lewis.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Mitragynine Toxicity

Other Significant Condition: History of Seizures

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Sunday at 1:51 p.m.

Ruling by the deputy medical examiner was published on April 24, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back from the lab. This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Mitragynine is the most abundant active alkaloid in the Southeast Asian plant Mitragyna speciosa, commonly known as kratom.
