Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 35-year-old Latino male who passed away at L.A. General Medical Center in Lincoln Heights.
The coroner’s office identified the man as Samuel Riveros. Born in L.A. County.
Manner of Death: Homicide
Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Head
RIP SAMUEL SIMON RIVEROS (June 27, 1989 – May 31, 2025)
Formal pronouncement of death was made Saturday night.
The decedent was a Baldwin Park Police Department officer who was fatally injured in a shootout.
At 7:12 p.m., police responded to a call about gunshots and a person down in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue. The call reported a suspect firing a rifle.
Upon arrival, officers were ambushed by gunfire from the suspect. Riveros was fatally shot. Another man who was not the gunman was found deceased on scene.
Currently a double-homicide investigation.
