Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 34-year-old White/Caucasian female that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the woman as Samantha Mackey.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Anoxic Encephalopathy

Other Significant Conditions: Medical History of Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Hepatitis, and Intravenous Drug Abuse, Alcohol Use and Smoking Tobacco

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Anoxic encephalopathy, also known as hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, is a condition that can arise from various causes, including intravenous drug use. This condition occurs when the brain does not receive sufficient oxygen, often due to respiratory depression caused by drugs like opioids.
