(L.A.) Richard Mata, 44, Died From Gunshots

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 44-year-old Latino male that occurred on a street in Carson.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Richard Mata.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Multiple Gunshot Wounds

RIP RICHARD MATA (March 28, 1980 – August 24, 2024)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Saturday at 11:50 p.m.

This was possibly a gang-related shooting.

Mata had shot at a man, who then shot back and killed Mata.

A second man, 18-year-old Va’afatu Mativa, also ended up being shot dead.

Raymond Maose, 22, was arrested in connection with the shooting, which happened at around 11:35 p.m. in the 100 block of West 234th Street.
