(L.A.) Peter Pathana Chounthala, 42, Died in Bellflower

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 42-year-old Asian male that occurred on a street in Bellflower.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Peter Pathana Chounthala.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Blunt-Force Traumatic Injuries

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 2:09 a.m.

The decedent was an active-duty Marine who died after being assaulted and then struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run.

Two people were arrested for this crime. They were initially charged with murder. In May 2026, they were allowed to plead no contest to voluntary manslaughter.
