(L.A.) Pearlene Valavala, 16, Died in Lancaster

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 16-year-old Pacific Islander female.

The coroner’s office identified the teenage girl as Pearlene Valavala.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Combined Effects of Physical Exertion, Environmental Heat Exposure, Blunt Trauma, and Covid-19 Infection

Note that the Department of Medical Examiner had previously listed the manner and cause of death as undetermined.

* In April 2026, the decedent’s mother Oriana Estela Elias, 38, and her partner, Vincent Gibbs, 39, were sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison for torture, child abuse and second-degree murder.
