Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 54-year-old Caucasian male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Nicholas Petriello.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Complications of Laryngeal Cancer

Other Significant Condition: Methamphetamine Effects; Emphysema; Chronic Tobacco Smoking

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 10:21 a.m.

This is considered an accidental, i.e., unintentional, drug overdose.

Tobacco smoking is one of the leading causes of laryngeal cancer. Methamphetamine can also aggravate throat problems due to its chemical composition and mode of use — snorting, smoking, or swallowing.
