WHO’s Tedros Declares Monkeypox a Global Health Emergency
The World Health Organization declared the rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreysus said that monkeypox has expanded to more than 16,000 cases from 75 countries and territories, officially making the virus a global emergency.

Director-General Tedros and WHO leadership reportedly overruled a panel of advisers who voted against the monkeypox declaration — 9 against, 6 in favor.
Tedros insisted that the panel vote was just informal. He claims he is the one to make the final decisions, not the panel.
